#WeeklyTask : Week 5 - News and You (episode 2)

Who owns the newspapers and TV stations in your country? Do you think this has an effect on the news that you hear?
Who owns ?
The answer is vividly known by all of us. Simply and solely, our dearest government controls the media - printed media, digital media, online media, broadcasting, pretty much all of the media are controlled by them.
Putrajaya, The Administrative Centre Of Malaysia.

Since the government is controlling the media, news especially, it does surely affect on the news that the citizen listen to. Some of them might be probably wrong, some of them can be consider true. The truth to be known.. only the government know. They are doing this is to prevent any situations that could worsen the situation in our country, or just using the media as their propaganda machine. (media is surely the best tool for the propaganda)

#WeeklyTask : Week 4 - News And You

How often do you read the paper or watch the news on TV? How important is it for you to keep up with current events?

Is it important for you?
To keep up with current events is important, but it seems that I don't really read the paper or watch the news on TV. I think the major reasons that 'prevent' me watching news on TV or read the paper is because of the politic issues in our country.

Every country or state got problem, more specifically regarding politic. But then because of the youth, like us, myself, does not really interested with the politic, we tend to ignore the news on TV or newspaper. The youth are more likely to read about entertainment, or sports, English Premier League especially.

Why the youth do not interested?
Just like I stated above, the youth are more interested into things other than politics. This is because they thinks, the politics is just a game. The minister fight against each other, swearing, cursing, sometimes mocking like children. And, we as a youth think this is ridiculous.

We will only read the paper, or watch the news if there is changes. We want news that is more straightforward, no biased on any side. We just want the truth.

#WeeklyTask : Week 3 - Theatre and how it communicate.

What is theatre? How do you think theatre, as a media form, communicates messages to its audience?

Theatre, the first thing come across my mind is about ancient Greek and Rome. It is where the theatre culture comes from right? Because there is one game I played, Caesar III, a very old game back in 2000's, shows that the theatre play an important role in developing the society. Maybe because the theatre was meant to deliver messages to the audiences, society right ?

There is variety of theatre, depend on country, and culture. But how does the theatre communicates to the audience? In my opinion, the content of the performance/show is meant to be delivered to the audiences depend on the current situation of that country/society so that the community will be easily influenced by the show and the messages can be greatly delivered.

Or maybe, by performing a very beautiful, great masterpiece of art, the crowd can remembered well the scene, the act, thus applying it on their daily life.

#WeeklyTask Week 2 - Different Group, Different Media Use.

Does different social or cultural group used different type of media? And the answer is yes. For this week, I would focus on 4 social/cultural groups. First started with the younger generation, including the kids, teenager and young adult. As more and more gadgets are introduced today, this generation is the earliest generation being introduced to the gadgets and technology. They are the one who will depend on the technology. The kids will spend most of their time watching television, cartoon maybe or playing games on smartphone or tablet. The teenager enjoying the internet, wasting time on social network such as Facebook and Twitter. Teenager can be from 12 to 19 years old. While the young adult, pretty much just like the teenager, but not only focusing on social network. They are probably actively on forum, social network, online streaming, or doing some reading about assignments.

Compared to the baby boomer generation, they don’t really care much about new media. They prefer with the traditional media, such as TV, newspaper, radio and mail. They are not technology dependent, and concerned about current issues, politic and economy. Some of them use the smartphone, but not really concerned about it. As long as it can function well, it good enough for them. For social network, this generation mostly used it for business purposed, or marketing. Twitter, is one of the good example business company can used for marketing and doing business because the retweet function on Twitter. Facebook merely used, just for the sake to connect with family members.

How about different culture? Does people in Brazil use different type of media compared in Malaysia? If we talked in term of social network, there are several different social media used by some country. Facebook is well known for social network, but it not really conquered the world. For example, in China, they use RenRen instead of Facebook. The Japanese use Ameba, something pretty much like Twitter, but only for those speaking Japanese. Vkontakte for Russia’s Facebook, Sonico.com for Latin Americans and Portuguese , AbairThusa for the Gaelic community. Gaelic is language and culture. Mostly found in Ireland.

In term of language, it is certainly different from one culture to the another. The Chinese speaks Cantonese. But there are some who speak Hakka, Mandarin, Min or Hokkien. Therefore, different culture got their own language, but to be able to communicate globally, English is set as standard language.

#WeeklyTask : Week 1 - Thought on Media Use

What is media?

Media is the medium for mass communication such as newspaper, brochure and even websites, social network. Media can be divided into two categories, traditional media and new media. And how about the media use?

Media Use is regarding how the society uses the media. How media has affected their life and how they handle the media.

There are many platforms of media nowadays. And for that I would like to focus more on social media since social media really give a big impact on the world today. In fact, Facebook user if combined all over the world, the population of Facebook user is the third densest population in the world.

Facebook has conquered the social network platform since 2008, taking the rank number 1 from Myspace. Everywhere you go people are more likely to have Facebook account. People use it mostly for stay connected between each other as you can easily share what you have on your mind, sharing the photo, stories and etc. Even the Instagram Company is bought by Facebook to strengthen their influence. By owning the Instagram, Facebook no longer have to worry about the competition in photo sharing. As a leading social network, Facebook is not only the place for social meet up, but also great tools for those advertisers and businessman. 96 percent of companies surveyed by Booz & Company and Buddy Media found that social network can increased their investments in social media.

On the other side, Twitter, the micro blogging social network, is not far behind Facebook. For the next couple of years, Twitter’s growth in US is predicted to be four times larger than Facebook. This probably because of the features that Twitter got. They are simple to use, and the user thinks the privacy setting also the best. Twitter also can be functioned as advertising and marketing tools due to their function that tweet can be easily re-tweet to other user. So the reach to the end user would be increased.
